New Era Introducing VIP Pre-Launch Event in NYC

On 30, Sep 2012 | No Comments | In Artwork, Client, Customs, Design, Shows | By aw177

As a Phase 2 finalist, I was invited to the New Era Introducing VIP pre-launch event that was held on 82 Mercer Street in NYC from 7-11pm, 9/28/12.

I brought along my family to view the top 70 custom caps that will be going on a nationwide gallery tour where the public will get two days to view very unique pieces of art.  The VIP access to the pre-launch event for all of the galleries will occur the night before the gallery launch, and gives myself, along with media, a first look at the artwork created.

Although I did not win the grand prize, I was only aiming to get into the top 70 and get my cap into the traveling gallery exhibition across North America and into the limited edition New Era Introducing Book.  I am very happy to have accomplished this goal.

My wife and I were the only ones with a child in attendance – while my New Era custom cap got some attention, it appeared the spotlight belonged to my daughter that night! Everyone loved her!

We had a great time and met many wonderful people, including Jim Wannemacher, the Event Marketing Manager at New Era Cap, Marconi Calindas, the winner of the 2012 New Era Introducing project and recipient of the $10,000 grant (we even discussed about doing a collabo one day, lol), and a very nice model who loved my daughter Kaylee to death!

You can view my Phase 2 finalist page on the New Era Introducing website here: Allen Wen Phase 2 New Era Introducing Finalist 2012

New Era was supposed to put up a video I recorded of myself working on my custom cap, but for some reason, the website is not updated with my video.  Therefore I am attaching the video here for you to view – I recorded a lot of footage but was only allowed a short video to submit, so I cut out a lot and just included the most vital tibits.  I have never edited film footage before, and I only had a Flip camcorder, so please forgive me if the video is not 100%!

Much thanks and appreciation goes out to New Era – it was quite an honor to have been a part of this with such an established company.  Enjoy some pics of the event and the “making of” video.
